I was surprised we had a frost warning the other night. And of course I forgot to cover everything up. Thank goodness though, everything made it through with no problem. We've been getting hit with so many storms (and an earthquake!!). The weather is so crazy this Spring, it's just amazing. I wonder what all the poor animals think?
Anyway, I've got quite a few things to transplant into the ground. My Dahlias and Amaranth need to be put into the ground very soon. I probably should have done it today....but you know, I really needed to scrub my bathrooms! And tomorrow it's supposed to rain - again! I also need to start another batch of lettuce. Taite really loved eating all that we had grown. ^_^ I'm glad he enjoyed it. Oh yeah that reminds me. I also need to transplant my tomato plants and 2 of my habanero plants. Yay! ^_^ Guess that means I need to start eating some eggs......because the shells are an excellent source of calcium for the tomatoes. I'm not sure about the peppers though.
Last fall, when I became too lazy (>_<) to harvest anymore morning glory seed, they had fallen all over my flower bed. So now I've got all these little morning glory seedlings popping up all over the place. I really need to pull those up. Hmm....same thing happened to my datura. But I haven't seen of those sprouting up (yet). Heck I can't even get the ones I (purposely) planted to sprout. Was I supposed to refrigerate first? I can't remember. I'll have to find out.
Well, I guess I've rambled long enough for one day. ^_^
Until next time! ^_^

Doing the Happy Dance!
YAY! I was quite surprised to find 5 tomato sprouts and all 3 habanero sprouts today!! FINALLY! I was beginning to give up hope --but no! They pulled through! lol I still have banana & bell peppers I'm waiting for, but you won't hear any complaints from me now. ^_^ Oh, and the Hopi Red Amaranth have all sprouted as well.
I was able to transplant 2 of 3 kinds of morning glory today. That was fun. ^_^ Got some seed sowing in. This today's list:
Lilac Datura
Black Currant Datura
EyeBall Plant
Purple Butterfly Bush
Huechera Bronze
The eyeball plant and butterfly bush I've tried in the past, and for whatever reason I could never get them to even sprout. I'm giving it another shot. It's my first time for both dats, tatsoi, and huechera. Actually it's my first time for quite a few things I've got going.
The tulips already have buds! They will be opening soon. I should take some before and after pictures. heehee!

Quick Run Down
Let's take a tiny trip back in time.........
Sunday, April 6th
My unnamed morning glory has sprouted. The first of three anyway.
Friday, April 11th
2 of 3 Grandpa Otts are sprouting. This is why I love morning glories so much. They have got to be the easiest thing to start from seed. Highly recommended for newbie gardeners. ^_^
Saturday, April 12th
I noticed that #1 and #2 Red Dahlia have sprouted. Yay!
Tuesday, April 15th
I recieved some tulip bulbs (already sprouting) for my birthday. I think they are going to be very pretty. I don't know if these are 'named', so I will give them names ~ Terry, Troix, Trent, and Taite ^_^. How's that? ^_^ Anyway, here are the descriptions:
#1 Orange w/ yellow trim
#2 Purple
#3 Red w/ white trim
#4 Yellow
I can't wait to see these in bloom. I will definetly be taking pictures. ^_^
Okay, let's stroll ahead to today .................
Today, Wednesday, April 16th
I divided my lettuce (#1), because it looked to be very crowded for it's container. Maybe I should have left it alone because now it looks sick. I gave it a little drink afterwards, so maybe it'll perk up tomorrow. I hope.
I did a naughty thing today. It was breezy today, but really nice. My youngest son was running around with the neighbor kids and I was outside listening for them and cleaning some of the little twigs and such out of my flower bed and casually tossing them into the yard, letting the wind blow them away. I know, I know, it was really bad. But it wasn't enough to fill a yard bag. You know how huge those bags are! >_<
So anyway......I'm a bit disappointed in my tomatoes and peppers. They aren't doing a darn thing. Oh- I take that back. One of my tomatoes has something sprouting in it. It looks more like a blade of grass than a tomato sprout. I'm almost ready to chuck them out. Almost.

What a Crappy Weather Day!

The weather has been so crappy, and rainy/stormy and chilly! I hate being cooped up in the house all day. Just when the weather was turning nice and Spring-like! Things should be getting nice again next week. That will be nice. I think I have to thin out some of my lettuce plants (picture 3). Ooooh! And my (unamed) morning glory has sprouted (picture 2), oh and my grandpa otts morning glory is beginning to push through the soil. Yay! That's exciting!
Now if only my tomatoes and peppers would do something! Took a picture of my son's sprouts (picture 1). I asked his teacher what exactly was planted. she said it was a mystery mix. So we'll be surprised! I can handle these kind of surprises. ^_^

The 1st Saturday of April
Today is such a beautiful day! A little breezing, but nice. It was great working outside again. We have our corner landscape all cleaned out, ornamental grasses are cut, the old cone flowers were cut down, leaves raked and 9 lawn bags filled. We sort of called it quites when we ran out of bags. >_< And there is still much to be done!
I sowed some seed today too. Went off the list again. I don't know why I can't stick to my own plans?! Oh well. This is what I did today:
Queen Sophia Marigold
Hopi Red Amaranth
King Fisher Daisy
Rainbow Dwarf Morning Glory
Poached Egg Plant
Still waiting for the tomatoes and peppers to sprout.......Along with everything else. Since the lettuce came up so fast, I guess I'm just a little anxious for everything else!
About two weeks ago, my 9 year old brought home a container with dirt and cabbage seeds he had planted (it was a science expirement), which have since sprouted. They will need to transplanted very soon. I have no idea where I can put them. What should I do? I would hate for them to die!
Well, that's all for today. Pictures soon to follow......

A Late Post
Sunday, March 30th
Planted a few more seeds today. Three of each:
Morning Glory - grandpa Otts
Liatris - Blazing Star
Hot Pepper - Habanero
And I finally got the last lettuce transplanted into a container. These guys are really coming along. I'm really looking forward to when I can start cutting some for salads! I'm pretty sure my lizards will love it too! ^_^

Got a Few Things Done Today
I managed to get a few things done today, in little spurts though. But heck, I'm not really complaining. ^_^
I transplanted 2 of my 4 lettuce babies (I did the first one last week >_<), for a total of 3 so far.
Still no sign of sprouts for the tomatoes or peppers, as of yet. And what I did plant today, weren't even on my list. Hahaha. Oh well. ^_^
I planted 3 of each:
Triple Yellow Daturas (Thanks Boo....pretty sure those are from you ^_^)
Red Dahlias
Morning Glory *of some sort*
I'll try to get back on track next time XD

Peppers & Tomatoes
I was able to get more seed planted today. I let my five year old choose. He didn't have to think twice -- he wanted his tomatoes and (bell) peppers!! So in, today, went the Heavyweight Bell Pepper and Bloody Butcher Tomato.
I feel like starting some flowers tomorrow! ^_^

Pictures, Finally

I finally took some pictures of my sprouts. Yay! Well, only two. They are in a three inch peat pots. I like these because, when it's time to transplant, I can just drop these in the ground or whatever and cover with dirt! Nice and easy, just the way I like it. ^_^
Anyway, here are the two pictures. Enjoy!

We Have Sproutage!!
I've been sick again. This time with strep-throat. Ugh!
So, I haven't been able to see if anything is happening with my lettuce for the last 4 days (still haven't started the pepper or tomato >_<). Yesterday, March 15th, I was feeling much better and was dying for a look! Guess what I found?? Sproutage!! Yay! I'm so excited! It's always so thrilling when you've created a life! Even if it is 'just a plant'.
So I ran to get my camera so I can show off my little babies. And of course! The batteries in my camera are dead. Grrrr..... and no other batteries in the house. Except for AAA's. Always an abundance of those for some reason. Anyway.
So here's what next on the list to be started:
Morning Glory- Grandpa Otts
Sweet Banana Pepper- Banana Bill
Sweet Bell- Super Heavyweight
Tomato- Bloody Butcher
Habanero Pepper
Liatris Spicata- Blazing Star
Unfortunetly, I think once the tom's and pep's are big enough to be planted outside, I may have to take them to my mother's and plant them there. I just don't have enough sun in my back yard. That's okay though.

Sowed Some Seeds
They had a tear, so I got out my needle and thread..........uh...anyway! (^_^)
Really though, I did finally start some seed yesterday. Some Curly Oakleaf and Heatwave Lettuce. They are sitting in my warm and sunny (enclosed) back porch. It was pretty nice yesterday and felt like I had to get out there. I'm glad I did. Next I 'll have to start the peppers and tomatoes.....should get started on some flowers too. Hmm...I should go through mt treasure box of seeds and decide on the flowers. Hey I know! I'll get my 5 year old to help. I'll let him choose. that will give us something to do later tonight. ^_^

My Order Came
Actually, it came a few days ago. I am just itching to plants my seeds! I really wanted to get them started yesterday. It was so beautiful out! I think it was 57 F, most of our snow melted. It was great. But I couldn't do anything. I've been sick for the past 3 or 4 days. And now the weather is crappy again. Figures.
I hear we are to have another snow storm tonight? Hmm.....it's the third of March....in like a lion out like a lamb??? I hope so!!! Heh, I know this id off the subject, but when I was a little kid, that phrase (In like a lion, out like a lamb...) used to scare me. Silly, huh?

Made a Small Order
Okay, I found my trusty notebook with my order from Burpee. This is what I ordered:
Curly Oak Leaf Lettuce
Bloody Butcher Tomato
Heatwave Blend Lettuce
Habenero Peppers
Square Peat Pots
Some how I thought I ordered more lettuce than that. Hmmm. Oh well. I hope I can grow the tomatoes in a container, because I get very little sun in my back yard. the habeneros, I'm pretty sure can be grown in a container. those will be grown for my Grandma. ^_^ She's always making salsa and stuff. The hotter the better. I've heard that eating hot peppers burns calories and helps you lose weight. Whether this is true or not, I don't know. Doesn't seem to be the case with my grandma (no offense grandma!!). ^_^
Can't wait until my goodies arrive!

Will Spring Ever Come ???
Oh my gosh! I am so ready for Spring to come! I'm tired of being cooped up in the house! I really want to be outside, playing in the dirt! I keep telling myself to start some winter sowing, you know, to help take the edge off. I just don't seem to have the motivation or ambition for it. I just really want to be outside feeling sun's warmth. *sigh*
But, I did put in an order of seeds.....from Park's ? Jeez I can't even remember any more. I ordered a few different varieties of peppers and lettuce....again I can't remember what now exactly. It'll be that much more a surprise when they come! ^_^
I wish we weren't renters. I would really love to dig up more of the yard! Some day, some day I WILL have my very own yard to play in! ^_^
